Amazon sells more ebooks than hardcovers

Online retailer Amazon said that it now sells more electronic books for its Kindle reader in the US than it does hardcover editions. Between April and June 143 Kindle books were purchased for every100 hardback books.

Kindle Founder and Chief Executive Jeff Bezos said, “Even while our hardcover sales continue to grow, the Kindle format has now overtaken the hardcover format. Amazon.com customers now purchase more Kindle books than hardcover books – astonishing when you consider that we've been selling hardcover books for 15 years, and Kindle books for 33 months.”
