Sony guidelines call for lower 3D games resolution

Sony PlayStation 3 has the capacity to display 3D in full 1080p resolution, but Sony’s official guidelines tell developers working on 3D titles for the console to stay with 720p resolution, according to the website Joystiq.

It quoted Sony 3D Development Chief Simon Benson saying that while the PS3 will display 1080p when 3D Blu-ray movie support is launched later this year, doing so now comes at the expense of the frame rate.

“Movies run at 24fps whereas games run between 30-60fps. Though studios are free to aim for 1080p 3D if they wish, it’s not currently something Sony recommends,” Joystiq said.
