2entertain explores simulated 3D process
The BBC’s home entertainment arm 2entertain said it is testing a new technology that “gives the illusion of 3D”.
Noting that it was too early for the distributor to consider full 3D releases, Managing Director Stuart Snaith told Cue Entertainment that the company is looking at a different technology that simulates the format: “We are exploring it currently. It’s not pure 3D, but it is a technique that gives the impression of 3D when you view it.”
Describing it as “natural production process” that does not require special glasses and can be viewed with existing equipment, he said some of the test results had been “mightily impressive”.
“It’s just a different technology. It’s not competing with 3D, it’s giving the illusion of 3D,” Snaith said, adding that the developer of the technology also was speaking to other studios, “all of whom are quite keen, I think, to be involved”.
