Hulu heads for mobile and eyes the UK with ITV
US online television service Hulu, the joint venture between NBC Universal, 20th Century Fox and the Walt Disney Co., is reportedly planning a subscription model for mobile devices.
The second most popular video site in the US after YouTube has yet to launch any dedicated mobile applications, but Hulu Chief Executive Jason Kilar told technology site GigaOM, “The computer in your pocket is very important. Mobile is a monster – we are very bullish. We will embrace any device.”
Hulu’s content is supported by advertising, but a paid-for mobile model is hotly tipped although Kilar declined to name which platform Hulu it would elect for its launch.
Hulu also has shown interest in the UK market and, according to the Daily Telegraph, it has been in talks with ITV since the middle of last year about an exclusive content deal, with ITV taking equity in the company.
